There's plenty of tasty guitar solos and harmonies, and the very slight change of direction in the band's sound actually does wonders for Matt Barlow's voice, who truly shines on this album and has finally clicked into place. The original name of the band was Purgatory but was then changed to Iced Earth. Overtop of this gallop are typically laid strong melodic hooks, sometimes doubled by two guitars playing in harmony. After finishing their original set, they would then take a break, which included a wardrobe change to emulate the subject of their tribute, Judas Priest.

Owens seized opportunity when, that same year, vocalist Matt Barlow quit Iced Earth. After two of power metals finest works, 1990's 'Iced Earth' and it's follow-up, 'Night of the Stormrider', the quality of Iced Earth's work dropped substantially.
